Head of Media Production / Creative Director

The Nines—formerly known as Suzuki Nine Knights, Fiat Nine Knights, Audi Nines, and most recently Swatch Nines—is contemporary action sports events series that has been around for about 15 years now. Attracting the world's best skiers, snowboarders, mountain bikers and more recently skaters and surfers, The Nines is all about authentically representing the sport and culture, and the people that push the envelope in progression and style.
Each event is unique, they are more hybrid's between an event and a media production. In the realm of action sports, the series is pioneering, peerless and a bit of an enigma; there is nothing quite like it. The Nines can also be considered an experimental lab in it's own right, a content machine that is ever evolving.
Mark von Roy's involvement in the Nines began in 2012 as a filmer capturing reactions and interviews (with a shitty canon 60d) and ended (due to moving to New Zealand) in 2023 as head of media production and "quasi" creative director (quasi because many different creative and talented minds where involved in the creative over the years). For the sake of brevity and/or your attention span, here are some of Mark's favourite videos from the Nines - with some thoughts speckled in between.
The production and post-production cycle during a Nines event, is hectic, to say the least. Balancing the expectations and wishes of sponsors, partners, athletes & media partners is a tight rope act over deep crevasse of potential anxiety. Twenty or more cameras, fifty or more athletes as well as sunrise, sunset & night shoots are turned around within days, if not hours into countless social edits, highlight videos, taylor made sponsor content, video news reels and even documentaries (those took a few weeks longer though). Here are two documentaries that we produced over the years.
The work and development to optimise the production and post production system - while at the same time making the workload for the crew (somewhat) more humane, was (and still is) and ongoing process. If you want to see the unfiltered behind the scenes of the Nines Media Crew, follow Hot Media Haus (best crew ever, viewer discretion is advised).
On the other side of the spectrum, here two bits of taylor made sponsor content pieces.
The content from over a decade of Nines is almost endless, if you've gotten this far: thank you for you attention. Here are two dope videos from the archive that include record setting events.
One final fun bit of nostalgia, here a bit of a weird and perhaps a bit cringe (in retrospect) behind the scenes insight into the back office of the Nines from a few years ago.
